Telephone Fraud

We have seen an increase in calls to people reporting they have received a phone call from a Police Officer from Margate or Scotland Yard advising them of their bank card being used in various locations in Thanet or online and that they need to attend their banks to draw out money to prove that they have their card.

Other persons have been told they are required to assist the Police in enquiries as counterfeit money has been used at their bank and in order to prove the offence the person is required to get money from their bank and a courier would collect it to be tested.

Kent Police would never ask about your finances or ask you to withdraw money from your account, if in doubt hang up the phone and call 101 to confirm the call is genuine.

Please find attached a poster on how to report various scam/fraud incidents.
