Hello Resident,
Today your local beat officers were on patrol in Norman Ward when they spotted an e-scooter being ridden on the pavement. The officers stopped the e-scooter and seized it from the rider. The rider will be unable to get this scooter back and it will be destroyed.
It is illegal to ride e-scooters on a road or a public place such as pavements, parks and shopping centres. It is not currently possible to obtain insurance for e-scooters in a public place and they can only be ridden on private land such as a garden. If you are seen riding an e-scooter in public, it could be seized under S165 Road Traffic Act 1988 for being ridden with no insurance.
If you cause serious harm to another person whilst riding an e-scooter, the incident will be investigated in the same way it would if you were riding a motorcycle or driving a car.
For further guidance please see the Kent Police website: Advice on e-scooter usage | Kent Police
