Nuisance E-Bike Seized |
||
|
Officers conducting ASB patrolling in Sheerness Town Centre seized an Electronic Assisted Pedal Cycle (EAPC) from a local youth who was riding it in an anti-social manner in town. Kent Police are aware of a small number of local young males who are riding around Sheerness on electric powered or assisted bicycles, often in an anti social manner putting themselves and other members of public at risk. Where possible officers will seize the bikes from the perpetrators as demonstrated by the below image. Electric Assisted Bikes are legal to ride in the UK, but subject to certain conditions. The main ones being a minimum age of 14 years old and below a certain power. They are NOT allowed to be ridden on pavements. If the power output is higher than 250 watts and is capable of propelling the bike faster that 15.5mph then it must be registered and taxed and subject to the same conditions as a moped or motorbike. If you have purchased one of these bikes for yourself or a family member and are unsure on the legality of the bike, please visit www.gov.uk/electric-bike-rules for full clarification, rules and advice. Please continue to report ASB to Kent Police via the Kent Police website at www.kent.police.uk/ro/report
