Date/Time: 1st April 2026 Whilst on routine patrol in the Tenterden area, specifically on Beacon Oak Road, I observed a vehicle being driven by a young local male who was believed to hold only a provisional driving licence. The vehicle was not displaying the required L plates. I stopped the vehicle, and the driver was identified as the owner and the sole occupant. Upon speaking with him, it became clear that he was not being supervised by a qualified driver, as required for holders of provisional licences. He stated that he believed he was permitted to drive unsupervised and had not yet passed his driving test, although he reported being due to take the test in the coming months. He also mentioned that his birthday was approaching. The driver was issued with a Traffic Offence Report for Driving Otherwise Than in Accordance With a Licence. He was advised that he would likely receive a fine and penalty points, which would be endorsed on his licence once he obtains a full driving licence. The vehicle was not seized. The male was permitted to move the vehicle to his home address once a suitably qualified friend arrived to supervise him, and after he had fitted L plates to the vehicle.
