Theft of Motor Vehicles

Kent Police is advising residents in Dover and the surrounding areas to remain vigilant following a recent increase in theft of motor vehicles, particularly mopeds and motorbikes.

Officers are actively investigating these offences and working to identify and bring those responsible to justice. In the meantime, we are urging all motorcycle and moped owners to take extra precautions to help protect their vehicles.

Crime Prevention Advice

Park in well‑lit areas — Whenever possible, leave your vehicle in a well‑lit location or out of public view. Using a cover can also help deter opportunistic thieves.

Use a heavy‑duty D‑lock — Securing the front wheel with a robust D‑lock makes it significantly harder for offenders to push the bike away.

Fit a strong chain lock — Loop a high‑quality chain lock through the rear wheel and frame to increase security.

Secure to an immovable object — Where possible, lock your bike to a ground anchor or other fixed structure.

Install motion‑activated CCTV or doorbell cameras — These devices can deter offenders and provide valuable evidence if a crime occurs.

Consider disc‑lock alarms — Motion‑activated disc‑lock alarms can alert you to tampering and discourage theft attempts.

Tracking devices — Fitting a GPS‑based tracking device can significantly increase the chances of recovering your vehicle if it is stolen.

Kent Police remain committed to tackling vehicle crime and keeping our communities safe. Anyone with information about these offences is urged to report it via 101 or through the Kent Police website.
