Nuisance Bikes - Police Update |
Dear Resident, The community have been getting terrorised for months, damage being caused in the parks and on the verges and those responsible are intimidating and causing fear, alarm and distress to residents. This issue was identified by you among the My Community Voice survey top three priorities. Recently POLICE received an emergency call reporting a juvenile male riding an off-road motorbike on the highways in Rodmersham. With the assistance of the local community, Police officers were able to identify the male and seized the bike for no insurance under section 165 of the Road Traffic Act 1988. This bike will be due for destruction. The offender was also given a section 59 warning (Police Reform Act 2002) which is a power used by Police to deal with anti-social use of vehicles, which is being driven carelessly or inconsiderately (e.g. dangerous driving, racing, drifting), and causing alarm, distress, or annoyance to members of the public. These bikes are expensive and this is a clear message to all of the community that the Police will not tolerate ASB and bikes being used ILLEGALLY in our community. The consequences are robust and we will continue to catch these offenders and ensure robust consequences are given to them. Hopefully this message will be taken seriously by the parents of these juveniles and the juveniles themselves, and that action is, and will continue to be taken.
Please find attached a flyer and feel free to share as you deem appropriate.
Regards Richard, PC DIVERS 30702 - Beat Officer for Teynham & Lynsted and West Downs Ward | ||
