Westgate on Sea and Birchington- Weekly update |
||
|
Dear residents of Westgate on Sea and Birchington,
It has been another positive week from a crime and anti-social behaviour viewpoint, with very few reported incidents across both areas. Please find below a summary of activity:
Westgate on Sea:
Today (Friday 12th June 2026) I hosted another ward surgery with KCC Warden Jason Gordon at Westgate Town Council. This was well attended with several residents exploring their concerns with us. Some of these were issues we were already aware of and could provide updates on, but some were new concerns and we are now working to address them.
I have been liaising further with Thanet District Council about an empty building on Canterbury Road which is a draw for anti-social behaviour. I am aware that some youths are entering residential gardens to gain access to the site and have caused damage to garden ornaments. I have requested a meeting with the Planning Enforcement Team at Thanet District Council to explore our options in securing the site, placing restrictions on the land owner, and limiting access options. A visitor to the Ward Surgery today also provided some excellent CCTV footage and enquiries are underway with local schools to identify them.
Birchington:
I have been working closely with the Rise Team (homeless housing team) and Community Mental Health Team to secure support for a homeless individual in Minnis Bay. I have received several emails about this individual and recognise that he is causing disruption to the area with some of his behaviour. A long term solution is required, and I have emphasised this to the Rise Team and Mental Health Team who should be taking the lead with this matter. They are looking into support options for this individual and I will continue to hold them to account and explore what their plan is for this vulnerable adult going forward.
Please continue engaging with Kent Police about any concerns you have in Westgate on Sea or Birchington. You can either contact us through the My Community Voice Platform, but for any incident in progress always call 999 or 101. You can also use our online reporting tool on the Kent Police website.
With kind regards PC Steven England
