I wanted to provide you with an update regarding Vehicle crime (theft from or theft of), which people around your area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the priority survey. Kent Police is investigating a number of motorbike thefts and attempted thefts around Lenham and Harrietsham.
Several offences occurred between 2300hrs on 04/08 and 0100hrs on 05/08. A suspicious white first-generation (2001-2014) Vauxhall Vivaro van has been seen in the area around the times of these offences and may be linked. We are asking residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity involving motorcycles or vehicles matching this description.
Protect your motorcycle, moped or scooter from theft:
Lock, Chain, Cover:
Use a disc lock, grip lock or D-lock to secure the motorcycle and help prevent it being wheeled away. Use a quality chain lock through the rear wheel and secure it to an immovable object such as a ground anchor or suitable street furniture. Keep the chain taut and off the ground where possible.
Use a motorcycle cover:
Thieves often target specific models and a cover makes your bike less attractive while also adding an extra obstacle.
Remove the keys:
Always remove the keys and apply the steering lock, even if you are only leaving the motorcycle for a short time.
Do not rely solely on the steering lock. Thieves can break steering locks and wheel motorcycles away.
Consider an alarm or tracker:
A Thatcham-approved alarm, immobiliser or tracking device can act as a deterrent and assist in recovering stolen vehicles.
Property marking:
Marking motorcycle parts can make them less attractive to criminals and helps police identify and return recovered property.
At home:
Store motorcycles in a secure garage or shed wherever possible.
Consider garage defenders, upgraded locks, alarms, security lighting and ground anchors to improve security.
If you do not have a garage or shed:
Park in a well-lit location close to your home and overlooked by neighbouring properties.

If you witness a theft in progress, call 999 immediately.
