Halloween Community Reassurance & Safety Message |
||
|
As Halloween approaches, our neighbourhoods will be filled with little witches, superheroes, skeletons, and the occasional dinosaur asking for sweets! While Halloween is a fantastic opportunity for families and communities to have fun together, we'd like to offer some reassurance and share a few safety tips to help everyone enjoy the evening.
🎃 Our officers will be out patrolling throughout the evening, focusing on areas where there may be increased activity. We're working to help ensure that residents can enjoy Halloween safely and that any concerns are dealt with appropriately.
🚸 Keeping Children SafeIf you're heading out trick-or-treating: ✅ Stay with friends or a responsible adult. ✅ Plan your route and let someone know where you're going. ✅ Wear reflective clothing or carry a torch so you can be easily seen. ✅ Cross roads carefully and avoid distractions from mobile phones. ✅ Only visit homes that appear to be welcoming trick-or-treaters.
🏡 Respect Your NeighboursNot everyone celebrates Halloween, and that's okay. A good rule of thumb is: 🎃 A pumpkin or decorations often mean trick-or-treaters are welcome. 🚫 No decorations may mean residents would prefer not to be disturbed. Please respect people's wishes and property. A friendly knock is fine, but repeated knocking, causing damage, or intimidating behaviour is not.
🚗 Advice for DriversWith excited children out and about after dark: 👀 Be extra vigilant in residential areas. 🐾 Expect the unexpected, especially near parked vehicles and crossings. 💡 Remember that some costumes can limit visibility for children and may be dark in colour.
🎆 Fireworks & Anti-Social BehaviourHalloween should be remembered for spooky fun, not nuisance behaviour. Please remember: ❌ Throwing eggs, flour, or other items at people, homes, or vehicles is criminal damage and anti-social behaviour. ❌ Misusing fireworks can cause injury, distress to residents, and fear for pets and wildlife. ❌ Trespassing, vandalism, and intimidating behaviour will not be tolerated. Parents and guardians are encouraged to know where their children are and what they are doing throughout the evening.
🐶 Don't Forget Our Four-Legged FriendsHalloween can be a stressful time for pets. Costumes, visitors, loud noises and fireworks can all cause anxiety. Consider keeping pets indoors and ensuring they have a quiet, safe space if needed.
🤝 Working TogetherHalloween is one of the highlights of the year for many young people and families. By showing consideration for one another, we can all play a part in making it a safe, enjoyable and memorable evening for the whole community. So whether you're a ghost, a ghoul, a superhero, or just protecting the family chocolate stash from trick-or-treaters, have a safe and enjoyable Halloween! 🎃👻 | ||
