Our officers will:

  • hold regular engagement activities in the area, including attending community meetings to share advice and listen to concerns

  • work with partner agencies including councils, schools, charities, and local groups

  • tackle issues like antisocial behaviour, repeat offending, and vulnerability

Local Priority Issues

Priority Action taken

Antisocial behaviour - general.

Issued 15 October 2025

PC Angell is working with housing providers and Canterbury City Council to deal with ongoing issues in Thanington. Officers have issued Community Protection Warnings and Community Protection Notices to households involved in antisocial behaviour, and steps are being taken to remove the tenants due to continued reports.

A Community Protection Warning tells a person their behaviour is causing problems and must stop. A Community Protection Notice is the next step and legally requires them to stop the behaviour or take action to prevent it happening again.

Residents in Thanington are encouraged to report antisocial behaviour directly to Kent Police.

PC Angell has also carried out high‑visibility foot patrols in Wincheap, speaking with local shops. Reports of youth‑related issues there have reduced, although problems continue in Thanington. She is engaging with young people and their families and directing them to the local youth community centre.

Drug dealing remains a concern. PC Angell is patrolling key hotspots and, in the last three months, has completed ten stop searches and arrested one man for drug supply.

E-scooters/nuisance motorcycles.

Issued 15 October 2025

The Community Safety Unit has seen a high number of reports about nuisance motorcycles in Thanington. In the last three months, we have seized one off‑road quad bike, and the rider was issued with a Traffic Offence Report. This has been the only vehicle we have been able to stop during this time, but we will continue to patrol the key areas. We are working to identify those responsible. When we do, we will issue Community Protection Warnings and Section 59 notices. These help us deal with antisocial behaviour linked to vehicles.

A Community Protection Warning is a written warning telling a person that their behaviour is causing problems for others and must stop. A Section 59 notice is a warning given when a vehicle is used in an antisocial or dangerous way. If the same person uses any vehicle like this again, the police can seize it straight away.

Any illegal vehicles we stop will be seized.

Dog fouling.

Issued 15 October 2025

We have not received any calls relating to dog fouling and PC Angell has not been made aware of this as an issue at the local engagements. Moving forward, PC Angell is liaising with the local Community Safety Unit for Canterbury City Council and will be working closely with the enforcement officers on joint walks along the river path and the Wincheap area to tackle this issue if we receive increased reports of this problem. The local council are happy to support us through this is issue an issue that they manage.
