High Street

Your Neighbourhood Policing Team is made up of Kent Police beat officers who are dedicated to keeping your community safe. They focus on preventing crime and antisocial behaviour, responding to local concerns, and building strong relationships with residents, community groups and local businesses.

Our officers will:

  • patrol to deter crime and reassure the public

  • hold regular engagement activities in the area, including attending community meetings to share advice and listen to concerns

  • work with partner agencies including councils, schools, charities, and local groups

  • tackle issues like antisocial behaviour, repeat offending, and vulnerability

  • build trust by being visible, approachable, and responsive

Neighbourhood policing is a key part of Kent Police’s commitment to being community-focused, visible, and responsive.

Local Priority Issues

Priority Action taken

Antisocial behaviour - nuisance.

Issued 03 November 2025

We increased the number of officers in the town centre throughout December 2025, from 5 December to 1 January 2026. This included extra day, evening and late‑night patrols to support the Christmas party period.

Youth Services and partner agencies delivered several positive interventions, including dance sessions with the Mandy Ellen School, a gaming bus and bike‑repair workshops run with the Community Safety Partnership Team. Feedback from young people taking part has been very positive.

Section 34 dispersal powers were used on 30 December to help manage an under‑18s disco in the town, as similar events have caused issues before. After the event, a Community Protection Warning was issued to the venue to stop them holding similar events again. A Community Protection Warning is a written notice telling someone their behaviour is causing problems and must stop.

The Community Safety Team has also visited all Maidstone secondary schools to talk to students about acceptable behaviour.

Compared with the same period last year, reports of drunken or rowdy behaviour in the High Street have fallen by 15.6%. A Criminal Behaviour Order has also been granted against a repeat offender who regularly caused issues in the town centre. Since receiving the order, he has been arrested, charged and remanded twice. We continue to deal robustly with any breaches.

Homelessness/begging.

Issued 03 November 2025

Working with the Homeless Team, three homeless residents have been re‑housed. Some of these individuals had been involved in shop theft. One person was charged for breaking a Criminal Behaviour Order, and two others were given Community Protection Warnings for begging in the Public Spaces Protection Order zone. These warnings have helped stop this behaviour. A Community Protection Warning is a written notice telling someone their behaviour is causing problems and must stop.

Police have also been working with Maidstone Borough Council regarding the three soup kitchens that operate in the town. All three providers have now been given a clear set of standards and expectations to follow after an increase in reported incidents. This has led to fewer issues and an improved service for those who use them.

E-scooters/E-bikes.

Issued 03 November 2025

During our Winter of Action, officers seized eight e‑bikes and 15 e‑scooters. Over the last three months, this has increased to 12 e‑bikes and 22 e‑scooters being taken off the streets.
